10-Year-Old Grade Quarter Horse Gelding – Pack Horse Extraordinaire, Riding Horse…Still Debating

For sale: a 10-year-old unpapered Quarter Horse gelding standing about 15.1hh with great legs, good health, and very strong opinions about being ridden.

This horse has spent most of his career as a pack horse, which he takes very seriously. Packing gear? Great. Hauling things down the trail? Fantastic. Being a riding horse? He’s currently reviewing that job offer and has not yet decided if he wants to accept it.

We saddle him about 5 days a week, lunge him, bridle him, and we’ve been on him a dozen or more times. He will walk under saddle and goes nicely to the left. To the right… well… we’re still negotiating that arrangement.

When ridden, he sometimes likes to add a little excitement to the ride in the form of bucking. Not malicious, just enthusiastic. Because of this he is not suitable for kids, beginners, or anyone whose life insurance policy has recently expired.

Where he truly shines is as a pack horse. That job he understands and performs well. If he could write this ad himself, he would probably say: “Looking for a nice quiet packing job with no riding expectations.”

Currently wormed and vaccinated

Strong, sound legs

Experienced pack horse

Healthy and in his prime at 10 years old

He is in excellent physical condition and could go a few directions depending on the buyer. With the right trainer he might improve as a riding horse… or he might continue pursuing his dream career as either a professional pack horse or part-time rodeo bucking horse.

Either way, he’s shy, he’s spooky, he’s honest, healthy, and guaranteed not to be boring.
