Lynda Plettner
Meet the owner of the Alaska Horse Ranch, Lynda Plettner! Raised in California, Lynda’s love for horses began early as a child, and she has been riding and training horses ever since. When Lynda moved to Alaska, her focus shifted from horses as she began training sled dogs. In her career, Lynda competed in 12 Iditarod races, while training 15 Iditarod finishers!
In 2002, Lynda was the recipient of Most Improved Musher award by moving up from 66th in 2000 to 20th by 2002, and the Leonhard Seppala Humanitarian Award for demonstrating outstanding dog care while remaining compettive throughout the race. As her sled dog career came to a close, she established a group home for Intellectually-Developmentally Disabled adult males, which she has been running for the last 25 years.
Never losing her love for horses, Lynda began building Alaska Horse Ranch as her personal equestrian playground. Starting from bare land, Lynda built everything you see today, including several barns, trails, and arenas. As the number of horses grew and Lynda’s passion for sharing her knowledge, Lynda opened her doors to the public, allowing a place for students of all ages and experience to learn about and love horses.
To this day, Lynda still possesses her competitive spirit and aims to have the top tier equestrian facility. At 74 years young, she is currently training for the upcoming dressage season, and aims to make waves with her roster of talented, and attention grabbing, show horses.
